In my U.S. experience, every person asks me, "Oh, this
is a little bit spicy, but you came from South Korea; I'm sure you are OK.
"
Sure, I like spicy food really much. However, we have yet to
learn about every South Korean people's taste type. In Yummirific data, we
collected 3,397 people's taste preference data with 40 survey questions.
Fortunately, we covered that "SPICY."
Our question number 8 aligns with "SPICY." "I
like spicy food."
So, I analyzed 3,397 people's responded data related to
basic tasty preferences, Sour, Bitter, Salty, Sweety, and "SPICY.
Here are some fun facts about it.
Fact 1. South Korean People really like “SPICY” rather than other tasty.
According to Yummirific's data, people responded with 3.806
on the Likert scale, which is the highest score rather than any other taste.
Even it is higher than "SWEETNESS" (3.634). This result means that
South Korean people like "SPICY" food more than 3 (Average of 5
points Likert scale) as +0.806.
Fact 2. Only 5% of responders said I really hate “SPICY”.
Our data found that 1,122 people answered "I totally
agree" with as score of 5. And it is 33.0% of total responders. Moreover,
Response as 4 also has 1,162 people, and it is 34.2%. Korean people really like
"SPICY" food. On the other hand, there are only 168 responders who
responded, "I totally disagree," and it is only 4.9%.
These are little pieces of our data in Yummirific.
